Join me in Episode 10 of The Inspiring Mums Podcast for a conversation with Sophie Heath –a Pregnancy and Post-Natal Specialist Personal Trainer & Nutritionist.
Sophie is also a mum of 3 and is so knowledgeable and passionate about her work with mums. In this episode we talked about:
⚡️Sophie’s motherhood journey – she had her eldest son just before lockdown and her twins were born in the summer of 2022
⚡️how Sophie got her fitness back after having her kids – she ended up designing her own online workout programme
⚡️how Sophie runs mum and baby fitness classes and mums enjoy it because they don’t have to rely on childcare to go and do their workout. They also often meet people who are the same type of people as them too in the classes
⚡️how important exercise is for Sophie personally – she’s realised that exercise is really important for her mental health, it’s her ‘me time’ and gives her a boost
⚡️Sophie talks about how the amount of calories that you burn through non exercise throughout the day – it makes up a bigger proportion than exercise does and it shows how little bits of movement all add up
⚡️how to safely get back into exercise after having a baby and how this depends on the kind of birth you had
⚡Sophie recommends that mums see a women’s health physio and have a “Mummy MOT” – these are great especially if you have pelvic floor issues
⚡Sophie’s favourite part of her job is when she makes a real difference to someone’s life through boosting their personal well-being and body confidence
⚡how we are all told to be body positive but not enough is said about the fact that we don’t bounce back as mums and how it knocks your confidence when you look and feel different
Even as a professional, Sophie acknowledges how hard it was for her to get back into exercise after having her kids, and she recommends that you either:
⚡find a professional that you connect with to support you with your exercise – it gives you that confidence that you are being looked after
⚡start slowly and work your way up – be aware of holding good posture and working with the 360 breath technique
We also found out we both enjoy watching mindless reality TV to destress – there’s something soothing about it – do you agree?!
After recording this episode, it definitely left me thinking that actually I’d like to get back into some kind of exercise – Sophie’s enthusiasm definitely rubbed off on me and I’m sure you will feel the same after listening – I hope you enjoy this episode!

“Once I’ve got my workout in early, I feel great then for the rest of the day – you know, you’ve done it and you can feel chuffed with yourself that you’ve made yourself do it and then reap the rewards then for the rest of the day.” – Sophie Heath
“I really love building people’s confidence up around movement and knowing that they can do a lot, whether they’re pregnant or postnatal and taking them on that journey.” – Sophie Heath
“I think people need to talk more about the fact that it’s okay to not love what you see in the mirror sometimes – I respect my body but I can also sometimes be sad about it too.” – Sophie Heath
